Is this possible? I'm currently building my collection on Librarything, and I see you can import Goodreads, but can I do just the ratings and date read information? I don't want to add all the books I have on Goodreads, because I've not ever marked anything there as owned or shelved.

Unless you have the book in your catalogue, you cannot rate it or put in reading dates. There's no entry to attach those to. If what concerns you that you do not own all of those, just put them in Read but Unowned collection

>1 Narzack: There is no way to import just updated data. The options are all or none.

>2 SandraArdnas: So, after I complete my Library, if I import my Goodreads data, it will only attach to books I already have? So, for instance, I have loads of books rated and logged in Goodreads that I've gotten from the library, and, therefore, don't own. If I import my Goodreads data, then it will only update the ratings for books that I have in my Librarything library?
Librarything Book A, B, D, X
Goodreads Book A, B, C, D, E, F
Import data into Librarything, then it will only attach the ratings to Book A, B, D, and X. Am I understanding correctly?

>4 Narzack: I don't believe so. As >3 gilroy: said, you have to import everything. There is no 'update' import that I know of.
The book and the ratings/reading dates have to be imported at the same time, in the same file.

I think I see what you're saying. It will import all the books I have in Goodreads, which means that in addition to the books on GR that I've logged and own, I'll get a load of books added to my library that I have logged but don't own.

There's no requirement for LibraryThing that you own the books you catalog here. If you want to distinguish them you can put them in different collections (aka shelves) or use tags

>7 jjwilson61: I'm really just using it for a family library.

>4 Narzack: No, as others have said also, there's no option to just update some fields through import (whether from Goodreads or general import). I was merely explaining that you cannot rate, review and edit book fields unless you've catalogued it. Those are attached to your own entry and it's you personal data. If you haven't catalogued a book, you can only see general work data (and edit those, such as Common Knowledge, Series, Awards and anything else that pertains to any edition).
