Old PI novels

I am looking for old Private Eye novels. The ones with the flowery/creative writing style flair.

I could hear the sound of her cheap shoes and smell her cheaper perfume before the knock on the door. Kind of writing.

It sounds like you might like Raymond Chandler. Everyman's Library has some good editions.
