Leaving Howl's Castle, having finished Castle in the Air 4**** and House of Many Ways 4½****. I only rated Howl's Moving Castle itself at 3*** because I found the whole thing confusing, but it really grew on me as the trilogy went on.

I've just returned from an alternate Napoleonic Wars Europe with dragons, in Black Powder War by Naomi Novik. I'm enjoying them so much that I gulped down the first three all in a row, but will now take a break so I don't finish them TOO fast. Next up is a non-genre Penelope Lively, The Road to Lichfield and then (probably) an SF title Seed Seeker by Pamela Sargent. It's the third in a generation ship type trilogy; not as dazzling as the Novik series, despite the fact that I like Sargent's work a lot, but still of interest. And I'm working on finishing a biography of John Quincy Adams for a presidential book club I've joined. Never a dull moment...

I'm in Darwath weathering The Time of the Dark with Rudy, Gil and Ingold.
I'm also looking for The Crow Folk in WWII England. (I don't usually read concurrently but this is an e-library book which has people waiting for it and it expires soon.)

I've been in Everton with Timmy and his ridiculously over-powered friends in Two Necromancers, A Dwarf Kingdom and a Sky City.

Still in Darwath (it's been put on a back burner out of necessity)
and also in England sometime in the past with Flavia de Luce seeking The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie - another e-library book, this time an omnibus of the first 3 in the Flavia series. I'm only about 4 chapters in but I must say that 11 year old Flavia doesn't seem like the nicest person.

Just finished Faith Hunter's Rift in the soul, the fifth (and most recent) Soulwood book. Vampires and Gwllgwi and trees, oh my.
More about the history of the church folks, and a little more about plant people too.

>16 Karlstar: :0) They are good. I recently bought the (first) three books because I had fond memories of them from way back when.
19Karlstar
>18 humouress: Have you read past the first three?
20humouress
>19 Karlstar: No; they were published later and I hadn't realised that the series was longer than a trilogy. Have you read them?
