Genres - Recent Fiction and Recent Non-Fiction

What are the criteria for assigning books to the Recent Fiction and Recent Non-Fiction genre categories? I know it's something the system does, not the users, but how does it choose?

Hardly any of my book purchases ever end up in these categories. I've added 13 books published in 2024. 3 are in Recent Fiction. I have one 2024 non-fiction book but 0 in the Recent Non-fiction genre.

It's not really something I look at very often, but I'm very curious because it just doesn't make sense to me.

I currently have nothing in either Recent Fiction or Recent NonFiction, despite having acquired several books published in 2025.

I just counted and I have 25 fiction and 1 non-fiction published in 2025 so far.
