I have been doing using testing for our library catalog. A user pointed out that drop-down menus usually appear on the left hand side of the page and they did not notice them on the right hand side. Is it possible to create an option for administrators to decide where to display them?

This is mostly due to the fact that the facets take longer to load and we want to avoid having a large blank area on the left of the screen that is "prime" real estate within the window while the facets load. This keeps the display feeling less jumpy for the viewer.
These aren't so much a "menu" as they are jumping off points to other searches.
But I can see the argument. It would be possible to have this sort of setting but I don't know where it would rank in the list of new features that we are working on.

I mean in Tinycat. I have just done user testing with our catalog and almost every user said they did not notice the "filters" there and re used to seeing this sort of thing (on Amazon, etc) on the left hand side of the page. Would be helpful to have that as an option.

I've been watching the sites I use, and sometimes it is on the left, and sometimes on the right. I don't think you can generalize that one side is 'standard'.
