The first one: are they being driven insane by the giant brain, or was it just the bad drugs at the rave?

The Disch: the unsuccessful prototype for Chicago's Bean sculpture?

'You meant a _literal_ bean? I thought it was supposed to be a metaphor - using the ol' bean, you know."

#5: "Do _you_ suffer from migraine headaches?"

Well ... what do you mean, unsuccessful? The sculpture is there, looking much like this book cover, although the surrounds are different. The cover art looks like someone sent a snapshot of Millennium Park back in time to Rene Magritte.

The Donovan's Brain cover looks like one of those glowering portraits of Aleister Crowley.

Weirdest of Disch's credits: a script for "Miami Vice". Aliens, peanut butter, and James Brown.

#2: it could be anything, but it's a goofy magazine cover.

BTW, quite a bit of the older pulpy stuff is available online in the internet archives, for instance https://archive.org/details/Thrilling_Wonder_Stories_v09n01_1937-02/mode/2up

I don't wanna strain my eyes to try to figure out which issue of Air Wonder Stories had the winner of the "explain the sporcs, cat dish instrument and yellow balls" contest.

The sight of the topless woman made Donovan's organ swell and pulse ostentatiously. That organ was, of course, his enormous brain.
