Sometimes you want to draw an alien but you also want to go for lunch so you kinda half-ass it.

I love this! I would proudly read it on the bus. The weird flora is the crowning joy.

Two words: modeling clay.
It's an ad for an alien Gumby show.
It's been 40+ years since I read the book, so I am not sure if it's appropriate.

>3 GSSex-noob: Here's Wayne Barlowe's take:

Of course, there have been other takes. The comic goes for more of an 'obnoxious senior citizen with tentacles' vibe:

And the TV show really didn't seem to really care what the book said...

Ok, so I have no idea about this book, author, TV show or comic, but it reminds me of what I sort of imagine Vogons look like. Do they recite bad poetry at you?

>6 Bookmarque: Pretty close. Do an image search for "vogon".

I'm not surprised Barlowe's looks less goofy and not made of clay.
The master on the book cover is doing more than examining the kids, it appears to have gone total grope-fest.
On the comic, ISTM it would have been easier to draw them like the other representations.
The Euro one also isn't clay, it's gone latex and foam rubber. The other thing is, where's Alcor, then? And what's happened to the shape of the Dipper?

>5 paradoxosalpha: It looks like it's wearing some sort of costume, possibly for Space Halloween. But what does it look like under the foam rubber?

>9 bam2001: Just another human.
Possibly this is a mascot for Space McDonald's.
Like Grimace.

>10 GSSex-noob: The Evil Grimace has ... big toes? Is that one giant toe he's walking on? I never imagined the Grimace was a digitigrade.

We have an evolutionary chart:

I think, in fact, he has no toes, just a large no-digit foot.
