As suggested by GSSxn, this topic is for us to discuss general SFF matters. Or anything else that you find interesting, for that matter. (Note that the Green Dragon group has a number of "general" topics and nothing stops you from pasting to any of them. Note in particular the Get yer red hot bargains here! ✬ Part 7 topic. )

I'm still occasionally seeing the cat. I had a pile of dark laundry on the bed, with one sleeve sticking up like a cat ear and I did a double-take and had a mild sad.

I have to set an alarm now if I want to get up at a certain time. But I do NOT miss the constant whining for food. And the freedom not to be home at certain times. 3 weeks ago, I went with some friends to a bar and grill and then a movie (Wild Robot, highly recommended) and was out all evening till late and didn't care.

Not having any noise in the house that isn't created by me or the house is pretty nice. No more of that "oh no what's that sound, what has he done now?"

He was the stupidest, whiniest, neediest cat I have ever known, but I still miss him sometimes. Not when I have a full bladder, though.

I lost a cat on Friday, and I have nothing bad to say about him. He was the best.

Awww, I'm so sorry. He looks like a smooshy little love. He reminds me of my also deceased kitty, Thomas. I still miss that boy. They take up such room in our hearts. I hope you can move on to fun memories soon.

>3 paradoxosalpha: So, so sorry. I would have kissed his floof all the time.

He reminds me of my 90's orange and white guy of identical floofiness, who was the Best Cat Ever. Never fazed by anything, walked on a leash. He loved riding in the car at night. The Mr. used to take him to fast-food drive throughs, where he'd stand with his paws on the car's windowsill to see what was going on. There would be a pile-up at the window as employees came to see this marvel.

Let's not have any more kitties pass for a while, OK? Doggos either.

>2 GSSex-noob: I understand all of that.

I still see the late Murdoch (named inexactly after Capt. H. M. "Howlin' Mad" Murdock, USA from the TV show "The A-Team") occasionally in shadows and such. He was a gray kitty, so shadows were his best friends.

I also felt a bit guilty after his passing because I felt freed a little. I always feared what would happen if I, God forbid, had to go into the hospital. I didn't have anyone close by who could check on him, feed him or scoop his boxes. The lack of "what's that sound?" is also a relief.

>8 Hammy_JLK: My 90's guy was also Murdock (the correct spelling)! The other 3 kittens in his litter were named as you'd expect.

I feel the same now that my tuxie is gone. He missed his last flea treatment because he was sick. Guess who the fleas bite now. I tried natural solutions and no go; I've proper mildly toxic chemicals being delivered today.

I came home the other day right at 6PM and felt guilty not to be met with giant yowls at the door. I have to keep an eye on the time at night, because no one's asking for bedtime treats. OTOH, I got home at nearly midnight a while back after being gone since 4:30 and was relieved not to have someone YELLING for 2 scheduled noms.

Ah, pets. They really get into your head. I have an old, blind dog and I just moved to a new apartment. (Poor guy was freaking out the first day or two, not knowing where things were, but he seems to be settling in now. Also objects, sometimes strongly, to my carrying him up and down the stairs, but they're a bit steep for him.) He's a bit of a pain at times, but he's so much a part of my existence that when I went back to the old apartment to clean up, I kept thinking I was seeing him out of the corner of my eye when it was just a white trash bag.

The mildly toxic chemicals have arrived, and spraying will commence before bed.

@bam2001, the little girl cat between these two went completely deaf and mostly blind before the end. But she was happy; the last year of her life coincided with lockdown so she spent it on my lap, purring. I tried getting a step for her up to the couch and she firmly rejected it, hopping up herself till the end. As long as we woke her up and got her attention for dinner by patting the couch next to her, it was fine. She was 20 when she finally went, having lived here her entire life. I still miss her too; she wasn't as stupid or bratty as the one I just lost, and nearly as fluffy as @paradoxosalpha cat was. I hope your dog figures out the new place completely, and I presume he isn't too big, since you can tote him.

I'm not ruling out another kitty, though I'm not looking for one. Definitely not getting another till after moving next year and get settled in. I was really worried about moving tux, who hated having people in his house other than us and a few very close friends, and hated noise. But at some point the getting of pets needs to stop. I know my mom really missed her last boy when he passed, but she and dad were aging and didn't want to outlive another. And he might have, considering they both had to go to the home for the gently bewildered just a few years later.

Although a friend who's older than me recently adopted a pair of older sister cats off extended death row. She's in good shape and they're so appreciative. Last time I was at her house, one of them hid and one gave me the major stink-eye; it took a while for them to accept and train her to their standards, and no one else can. Cats have trouble getting good help.

I expect to see the boy until I leave here. Especially now that the shadows are darker, because he loved lying down in a dark spot and tucking in all his white bits. A friend had a completely black dog who never flopped onto the floor unless in a dark hallway.

I dreamed about my boy right before I woke up. He was just walking around the house meowing. It was nice.

Here's the last pic: he'd already been tranquilized but was still shirty about being at the vet.

There's 2 new posts to the Sarnath thread!

Also, I'd kinda like the re-enactment post I was in to be archived. IIRC the comments were good too.

Say/link something amusing!

What with the days getting shorter (and even more so soon with the time change), the election, the weather getting gloomier and colder -- esp. since this is the time to start having a lap cat for 30+ years, not to mention changes in air pressure -- I need some amusement.

>13 GSSex-noob: Sarnath thread is now up to date.

Happy to add the other one, but can you give me some clues to find it by?

ETA Never mind: here it is. It might take a while because I'll have to add all the "re-enactment" images to the gallery and I have the impression that the image functions on LT are misbehaving at the moment.

>9 GSSex-noob: As were my Murdoch's three littermates. The one female kitten was dubbed B.A., the other two males were Hannibal and Face.

My sister and her boyfriend also had a litter named after candy bars, e.g. Snickers, Kit-Kat, and so on.

Her feline A-Team's momcat was named Puppy Cat.

Aw, another thing I have in common with you.

GSS is good people.

My ex-roomie inherited a cat named KitKat from her late aunt, who'd gotten the name because she looked exactly like the old clock. Not the brightest, but the sweetest kitty. Deferred to Murdock, so they got along fine.

Hey, denizens of the "old place" - you may not believe it, but Dead Stuff With Big Teeth apparently just posted on the "So probably... RX for the End..." thread!

Hi all—I got myself over here but I am still wildly disoriented. My cat Maxine was simultaneously brilliant and, as the Italians say, *deficiente*—she tortured and delighted me for 18+ years and ran through all nine lives at least before giving up the ghost. By the end she’d pretty much lost all control and was a constant ordeal but I could never bring myself to let her go. She waited until I had gone on a trip and she was in the kennel and then slipped away. I’ve never replaced her. I’m still checking out GSS every other day or so. It sure was cool to see a post from DSWBT.

>20 bchiclitz: Hey, BC! Good to see you here! Please help me note jaunty hips.

Glad to see you here, and glad/sorry about Maxine.

Maybe you can help us get more people over here.

It was great to see DSWBT, even in a gallop-by appearance.

GSSxn—did we not carry the @ symbol over here? Good to find you but I am still very unsure how to navigate. If I start at the home page I can’t get myself here. Good thing I bookmarked this page or I don’t know where I’d be! Anyway I will sure be on the lookout for jaunty hips, and the odd narwhal.

>23 bchiclitz: If you reply directly to someone (like I have here), you get the @ and their name in a blue font. Otherwise you have to @ it yourself like the old place.

I set a bookmark for this page as well. And don't think I've logged out either. And I haven't ventured elsewhere.

All: LT uses "@" as a marker for a username. If I want to refer to someone by their username, I just type the name (for example "bchiclitz") but put an "@" in front of it (no spaces), and I get "@bchiclitz", which acts as a link to their profile page.

To answer a specific post, just type a right-pointing arrowhead and the post number and a space, and you get this: >24 GSSex-noob: .

Incidentally, welcome @bchiclitz!
