Dear all,

I've come across a new release and new press. No affiliation but just ordered and thought it may be of interest:

Occult Press’s next book, Dhoula Bel, or The Magic Globe, by Paschal Beverly Randolph, is now available for preorder.

Here are the details:

Dhoula Bel, or The Magic Globe, has long been considered the great “lost novel” of Paschal Beverly Randolph (1825-1875), who was one of the greatest of all occult authors. Though the novel, very likely, was never actually published in book form, it did appear, under the byline “The Rosicrucian,” in the weekly paper The Spiritual Age, in nine installments, published between December 17, 1859 and February 11, 1860, the latter date being the date of the final issue of the paper.

The current volume brings together the entirety of the serial, and though the novel is in an “unfinished” state, it is the longest work of fiction ever published by Randolph. The novel, furthermore, was only the second novel to be published in the United States by an African American and the first to be published by an African American man.

This unique volume is subsidized by a scholarly afterword by Brendan Connell and four highly interesting appendices which revolve around Dhoula Bel and some of the background to its composition.

The book is offered in two editions: a standard hardcover in an edition of 330 copies, and a deluxe, leather-bound edition of 20 copies + 3 “hors commerce” copies.

Just an observation: they are litho, not letterpress printed.

Sounds like a terrific project. I look forward to seeing photos on the website. . . .

>4 SuttonHooPress: Based on the photos of their edition of Explosion of a Chandelier, they look to be quite satisfactory for the price point. Had I the bucks to spare, I would be interested in acquiring one.

First I've heard of them, but I would agree with >5 Glacierman: that they look to be of suitable quality for the price. Nice as well that they are fairly obscure works.

New title from Fulgur Press, they do interesting and well-illustrated occult titles. This one is the fruit of over a quarter-century of research by the author.

The Alchemical Feminine: Women, Gender, and Sexuality in Alchemical Images

It's open for pre-order currently with a nice discount. I'll have to see if they are shipping to the US.

EDIT: They do, and only £11.32 for Royal Mail International Tracked. We'll see how it fares when they ship it to me.
