Have you ever read a book simply because of the name....
I am eagerly waiting for Crazy Aunt Purl's Drunk, Divorced and Covered in Cat Hair by Laurie Perry

Of course-and I've read books just for their covers...
Things I've learned from women who've dumped me
Postmodern Pooh
Madame Bovary's Ovaries
They just sounded different.

Don't tell Mom I work on the Rigs: She thinks I'm a piano player in a Whorehouse by Paul Carter
This seemed so unlikely a title I just had to have a look at it. As it turned out the book didn't appeal to me at all. The author obviously thought his rather ordinary blokey life was interesting enough for publication (or the publishers did) - not to me I'm afraid.

All Over but the Shoutin' by Rick Bragg. It's not just a wonderful title, it's a wonderful title that I always, always misread as "All Over but the Shooting". Which would be an altogether different Southern family memoir...

Definitely The Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to Eccentric & Discredited Diseases by Mark Roberts.
And How to Fossilise Your Hamster and also The Devil's Dictionary.
(The touchstone for the Lambshead Pocket Guide never loads...)

I'll sometimes pick a book up for the title, same as for the cover, but I won't read a whole book just on the basis of the title, without finding something else out about it first - reading reviews or at least the back cover. Some of them I still read. Some of them I put back quickly.

I picked up Troll: A Love Story by Johanna Sinsalo both for its title and cover art. I found it to be a delightful novel. I'd never heard of the book nor author before. What a find!

I thought that this crime novel had an interesting title and bought it:
Guds fruktansvärda frånvaro. Touchstone gives the German title, so here is a link to the work page:
Guds fruktansvärda frånvaro. The title in English: The formidable (or horrible) absence of God. But I didn't like the book as much as the title. As far as I know it hasn't been translated into English - only into German and Finnish.
