Closing as a duplicate of https://www.librarything.com/topic/366222.
4OLG_Church_Seattle
It's not clear that this is a duplicate of 366222. Though both bugs have to do with errors pulling data, that bug differs from this one in two significant ways:
(1) This bug specifically relates to LOC, while that bug notes that "LoC is working".
(2) That bug produces a different error ("invalid format", "The data couldn't be read because it isn't in the correct format") which is a different error than "No results found". In bug 366222, results are being returned by LibraryThing has an error processing them.

>4 OLG_Church_Seattle: Okay, I was told by @ccatalfo that it looked like a dupe so I marked it as such. :)
Given I'm still seeing issues with this case, I'll reopen this and look back into it. Thanks!

Update: we have some improvements to give Overcat very soon, but this likely won't be ready until after the holidays. I'm keeping this bug on my list to check once we push those updates. Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Still unable to pull from LOC as of January 4, 2025.

>7 Michael_T_Bunney: Thanks for the bump. We're still catching up from the holidays, so I'm going to try and bring this up later this week or early next week. Hopefully we can get those improvements live soon.

Just checking in - LOC searches are still failing for me, is this still on the radar? I've been needing to add from Amazon a lot lately, with neither LoC nor Overcat succeeding for me.

I'm not sure if this fits, but whenever I find a book and select the Add Button, no book can be found. It's the same for books with and without ISBN, already in someone else's collection so should be known bij LT.
(I know the Add button is to get more or less to the 'add your books'-page, but then I need to manually add the books by ISBN or no ISBN, meaning you get a lot of duplicates in the database. I read in 2022 the reasoning was that you couldn't be certain if it was the right edition, but couldn't you change that manually afterwards, for those who care about that?)

>11 kittyocean: Adding in Any of the available ways works the same way behind the scenes and no method creates more duplicates - you are as likely to get automatic combinations to work if you use the Add Book button, the Add Books page or the manual add page.
LT does not have editions layer so when you add a book all the data for it comes for the specific book you added. You can add later but some fields are not editable (asin fro example) and there are a lot of fields. If you care about your specific details, starting from the correct edition is better.
We are not like Goodreads where switching between editions is trivial (they have an edition layer). Here we have a book (someone’s data) and work (all languages, all editions of that book).

I'm still getting this issue when I try to search LOC by book title or author name; searching by ISBN usually works.

LT is not a source for entering books. It doesn't matter how many people have entered it.

>11 kittyocean: >15 MarthaJeanne:
There is a newer feature that allows you to simply add a book that appears in someone else's catalog, but that only works if the work is in Overcat. My understanding is that only works that have been cataloged at least once from a library source make it into Overcat. There may be a bit more nuance, but it's a data quality issue. The bottom line is that if a work has only been cataloged via Amazon or manual addition (a common problem in countries/languages with limited library source coverage -- which sadly includes The Netherlands since most of our source libraries there closed down free Z39.50 access), that feature doesn't work, and in that sense the work is not yet "known by LT" -- or at least not by its internal catalog, Overcat.
Someone else please chime in with the feature announcement link, etc. I think this has been the state of things for at least a year now.
ETA: As far sources for languages of The Netherlands: Belgium's Royal Library and the Vlaamse Centrale Catalogus provide reasonable workaround coverage, at least for Dutch/Flemish. Frisian is a mess right now.

>16 davidgn: That new feature ("Quick Add") can also add from Amazon if it is in your sources - it is basically a shortcut for the Add Books page, not an Overcat only option. https://www.librarything.com/settings/other is where you specify if Amazon(s) or libraries get a priority on this. :)
18davidgn
>17 AnnieMod: In that case, I stand corrected. Thanks. I don't think I've ever used the feature.
19jjwilson61
>16 davidgn: I wouldn't describe Quick Add that way. It is not in any way adding from the other user's catalog. It's just using the data in their catalog to try to locate the data in one of the usual non LT sources
