Short story mother observes her handicapped child through window on classroom door

Heartbreaking short story from award winning anthology. Upon dropping her elementary school aged special needs child off at school, the mother catches unexpected glimpse of child through window on classroom door. It is stark realization. Child (girl?) is encountering hardship of daily life and Mom realizes how much of child’s life is endured alone and how hard it really is and that she can’t protect child.
