Another list!
These are some titles on the transition from the Medieval Period to the Early Modern Period. Initially, I just wanted to find books that would help to explain the Medieval theology in the “Bondage of the Will” debate between Erasmus and Luther. But the list has grown a bit. If others have suggestions, they will be appreciated. I don’t want this to become a long list, though, like some of my others.

2) The Waning of the Middle Ages: A Study of the Forms of Life, Thought, and Art in France and the Netherlands in the Dawn of the Renaissance, Huizinga (Dutch ed. 1919)

3) Medieval Thought: The Western Intellectual Tradition from Antiquity to the 13th Century, Haren
4) The Medieval Theologians: An Introduction to Theology in the Medieval Period, ed. Evans

I guess it would have been better if I had started with this study, but my goals have developed sporadically; so I’m slipping it in just before “The German Reformation: Luther, His Allies, and the Radicals.” See my long list - “A Multi-Part Outline.”

Now, also, I have, “A Tentative List of German Reformation Books.” It’s a long list of theology, history, biography and literature from Reformation Era Germany. (02/05/2025)
