Astro's 2025 ROOT Challenge

Hello!

This is my first attempt at a reading challenge, so here's hoping I did this correctly. I've been on an uncharacteristic ebook kick lately and I think I only managed to finish a single book that I owned a physical copy of last year, so I went with the unambitious but I think achievable goal of 12 ROOTs.

I have a small stack of books that I bought at my local library's yearly book sale back in November that I haven't even found a proper place for on my bookshelf yet, so my first goal is going to be anything from that pile.

Welcome AstroKnight. You did everything right. Ticker in its place, own thread and you are now officially a member of the ROOTers. I hope you have a great time here and keep reading.

Book One: Original Sin.

What I know about this book:
1. It has a very nice golden design on the cover - 95% of why I brought it home
2. It seems to be a murder mystery, which I have largely sworn off after getting mad at one too many Christie novels
3. When I added it to my library, I was informed that this is the ninth book in the series, so I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope they're fairly stand-alone

Book Two: The Hunger Games

I didn't make a ticker for this one as I started and finished it in one go. It was a really enjoyable read! I managed to avoid the whole Hunger Games craze a few years back so I only had a general idea of what to expect, but it was really good. I've finished a few YA-type books this year and I definitely feel like I missed out when I was a kid. I think when I was YA age I was mostly reading books from the 1800s for some reason?

I will admit that this only counts as a ROOT on a technicality; I own a physical copy but I still borrowed the ebook from my library. I've honestly gotten a lot of reading done so far this year; I'm averaging 2-3 books a month which is a lot for me at least, but I decided to go back to school so my free time has been practically nonexistent and most of my reading has been done on my phone at work, leaving my bookshelves sadly ignored. Regardless of the fact that I did not touch my physical copy of the book, I'm counting this as a completed ROOT as it's a book that I can now get out of my home and I donate to my library's book sale. I've placed a hold on the next book in the series, but the first one is the only ROOT. I think it was a gift I received back in high school.

Honourable mentions to non-ROOTs I've finished so far this month: The Goblin Emperor, All Systems Red, and Artificial Condition. I enjoyed all of them, but The Goblin Emperor was way more feel-good and lacking in substance than I had been led to believe. I feel like it's just pretending to have intrigue and drama. I got through the first two Murderbot novellas in an afternoon and then lost steam about 20% through the third, but I'm loving the series so far.

Of course you should make that count. It's of your TBR pile!
How wonderful you started school again! very courageous!
