One YA ARC: Everything I Promised You by Katy Upperman (to be published February 2025).

Received in the mail one I’ve been seeking for a while Miss Carter and the Ifrit. Seems like fun. I suspect the recent Tilda Swinton movie Three Thousand Years of Longing was based on it.

>2 varielle: Jealous! It's on my list of the many books I want from that publisher. Resisting...

Relatively impulsive buy of a brand new history book in hardcover: Paris Undercover: A Wartime Story of Courage, Friendship, and Betrayal by Matthew Goodman. This was not one of the two books I planned to buy this month.

One historical fiction ARC, The Director by Daniel Kehlmann, translated by Ross Benjamin (pub May 2025).

Grabbed it because it's about G. W. Pabst, & I've seen a couple of his films. Plus I own another (unread) novel by Kehlmann, Measuring the World, and want to read Tyll, too.

A while back I pre-ordered a book I saw mentioned in BookPage. Bought it today: Jane Austen's Bookshelf: A Rare Book Collector's Quest to Find the Women Writers Who Shaped a Legend by Rebecca Romney.

I seem to be accumulating her books without having actually read any yet: one ARC of the novel The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris by Evie Woods (pub 4/25).

I went away for the weekend and stumbled across an Indy bookstore so they had to have some love from me. So I bought Forest Bathing.

From the FoL: Ecstasy: A Novel, Days Tangier Journal, The Misfortune of Marion Palm , and Joy in the Morning.

From eBay: The Raven King: Matthias Corvinus and the Fate of His Lost Library.

I've been trying to resist the allure of books, but failed miserably today.

Before even getting out of bed I ordered two books:
* _The Berlin Agent_ by Stephen Ronson (I bought -- and read! -- the first book in the series in '24)
* Mother Naked by Glen James Brown (on the just announced Sir Walter Scott prize longlist for historical fiction)

And at work I picked up one of my pre-orders:
* The King's Messenger by Susanna Kearsley (an autobuy author)

I also bought two games magazines, a fill-in (love them) & a crossword (don't like them, but supposed to be good for my brain). And a DVD of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

No willpower.

>15 varielle: Wow.

I have a few books on hold at work. Will probably pick them up by the weekend, unless I talk myself out of them...
