A fiction story of an ex-military who starts a new life

I am looking for a book that is about a former military operative relocates to a small town in Central America to escape his past and provide a safer life for his daughter. However, he finds himself caught between the corrupt local police and a dangerous drug cartel. As the stakes rise, he calls upon an old military friend for assistance, unknowingly inviting conflict into his own home.

I read this book years ago and cannot remember the name of it.
