I read this book around 2010-2012 and can't remember the name. It was about A street urchin boy with magic boots that grow with him, a bird tattoo/birthmark on his chest that he doesn't know how it got there, and special powers where he had to give up something he loved to get something to happen. For example, he had to give up his precious boots at one point to escape from people (i think) and at the end, he gave up his life so his woman company who had just died, could come back from the dead. After he does this, he wakes up and he's actual immortal, and he meets more immortal people at the end.
I think that the book had a large greenish gemstone on the cover, and the name of the book might have started with an "E". I think the name of the land that the story is in also starts with an "E".
