it's a shame it's such racist garbage, because the movie is filmed really beautifully. But that's not a surprise: with all the money the studio poured into it, it would be strange if it weren't good cinematography and use of Technicolor.
The book was capitalizing on racist nostalgia. Was that about the time Uncle Tom's Cabin started to lose its juggernaut status, I wonder? (Much ink has been spilled over that one, too, but I always find it striking how popular culture used it for such racist purposes. Then again, one can be an abolitionist and still think people of color are less than white people.)

I liked it, as well as the sequel Scarlett. Rhett Butler's People was so-so and The Wind Done Gone was unnecessary claptrap. If you liked them that's great, but those last two were not true to the original and thus lacked in almost every way.
