"...and Out of Proportion is the Lizard-Centaur."

I'm not sure if Philip Jose Farmer was a proponent of the ancient astronaut theory of humanity's genesis, but a recent episode of Ancient Aliens convincingly purported Erich von Däniken's assertions that gigantic Reptilian Centaurs have long inhabited Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. This astonishing cover is clearly no coincidence and corroborates Von Däniken's claims.

Looks more like a vegetable pangolin-centaur, methinks? Those scales don’t look very lizardy?

I don't know, the sun looks pretty bright to me.

I hope everyone on board knows how to swim.

The man must be a doctor. He has a round head mirror just like every doctor in the movies from 1930 to roughly 1990s.

>3 AndreasJ: Not lizardy at all, I agree. Reviews say he is indeed a plant.

It's not as bad as the giant radioactive mutated bugs in 50s movies, but I'm still wondering about the square-cube law. It's only 4 logs and an outrigger, so maybe the centauroid doesn't weigh much. But why does it have such comparatively tiny human hands? Barely twice the size of the hero's.

@MrsLee: I read the description on here and indeed it is supposed to be dark. Sunless, even. Seems bad for plant-man's functioning unless he's gone carnivorous and the other raft denizens are his food supply.

@TorMented: GSS!

I don’t like the placement of the group on that raft. The physics of floatation require the largest load on the right rather than the left.

I have a copy of this book. The back cover blurb is hilarious as well...

With a name like Sloosh, the plant man can't be all that heavy, can he...? Or maybe his name is a precursor for the sound he makes when he tumbles off that rickety little raft?

That rascal Shemibob! He was only ever half as good a man as plain old Bob.

Forced to confront his crippling fear of water, Deyv took a really deep breath.

>9 ScoLgo: With those axes, at least Deyv and Vana can chop up Sloosh when his excess weight starts to tip the raft. Plant-man overboard!

Sloosh is definitely the sound he makes going into the water.

Shemibob - sounds like something a drunk hairdresser would say....
