I’m in! It’s another long weekend for me (today is our Independence Day so I have the day off). Have some things that need to get done, but I hope to get plenty of reading time in.
I need to make a bigger dent in The Name of the Rose and I’m way behind on The Faerie Queene, but first I’m going to finish The Big Four.

Thanks @ SilverWolf28!

Yes, I'm in. Focused on finishing a couple reads but will also be reading some Ibsen plays for one upcoming IRL bookgroup and Noor by Nnedi Okorafor for another. The weather gods have decided to keep me out of the yard for yet another weekend, but it means today is a sweat fest as I scramble to finish as much mulching as I can before the predicted rains over the next 4 days (seriously! Maybe I should give up gardening and go in for carpentry to build an ark...)

We’ve been in our new house for 7 months and l’ve been developing a plan for my outside space. We have a nice yard with a beautiful backdrop of trees and l want to open up the house to the outdoors. landscapers are coming this week to prune and remove overgrown bushes. Today l was designing new deck and a small enclosed porch. I’m inspired to do this now and start enjoying it.

Getting a late start, came here for inspiration to get going today. Last night I ended up attending a Rally/Vigil for Veterans to draw attention to Veterans' issues and remind us all of D-day. It was good to attend and remember/learn.

So with that in mind, I'm starting with Black Submariners in the United States Navy, 1940-1975. It's a very interesting history with brief biographies.

Saturday Report
Books read from: My continuous reading book remains Queen Lucia by E. F. Benson. My computer book is Eating My Way Through Italy by Elizabeth Minchilli. I am reading Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber and A Grave in the Woods by Martin Walker. I am listening to Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens and Traveling With Pomegranates by Sue Monk Kidd.

Books finished: Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber

Book Thoughts: I finished reading Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber for my local public library book club. I think this novel would belong to the romantsy genre. It was published by Forge and this publisher is known for publishing scifi, paranormal, and horror books. This novel is a mixture of paranormal and romance. It is like the Hallmark channel - all sweetness and light and everything turns out well in the end. This book will not make for good discussion because there is no controversy. No bad decisions. There is nothing to discuss because it is just so sweet and love fills the air. It wasn't a bad book, but it will be hard to talk about it for more than 15 minutes.

Non-Book Activities: It was another weekend of cooking. Yesterday I made another lemon cake. Today it was baked ziti. Both were for a potluck. One was Friday night and one will be tomorrow at noon. Then I have book club on Zoom in the late afternoon and after that I have to start washing clothes and packing to get ready for my trip on Wednesday.

Reading Time Today: 2 hours
Time Reading this weekend: 2 hours
Time listening:
Time posting:
Food: a bit of baked ziti and a very nice glass of chardonnay

Sunday Report
Books read from: My continuous reading book remains Queen Lucia by E. F. Benson. My computer book is Eating My Way Through Italy by Elizabeth Minchilli. I am reading A Grave in the Woods by Martin Walker. I am listening to Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens and Traveling With Pomegranates by Sue Monk Kidd.

Books finished: Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber

Book Thoughts: I had a great time with my real life book discussion group this afternoon. We talked about the book The Maidens by Alex Michaelides. It was not one of my favorite books, but it turned out to be a great discussion. We spent a great deal of time talking about unreliable narrators. Then we talked about the difference between reading and listening to a book and how the two experiences are so very different from each other. We then talked about how publishers should put more effort into blending the two experiences so that it would be easier to pick up on visual clues in books (things like changes in print size and font) to indicate different speakers. Anyway, it turned out to be a great discussion where a mediocre novel was the catalyst for a discussion about other things. Important, other things, but still other things - or in the words of one participant, "A very long rabbit trail."

Non-Book Activities: It was a weekend of family activities. Lots of food and lots of family. It was great fun. Now I have to start preparing for my trip to Bozeman, MT.

Reading Time Today: 2 hours
Time Reading this weekend: 4 hours
Time listening:
Time posting:
Food: lots of hot dishes and deserts. hardly any vegetables.

Book Thoughts: I had a good weekend of reading. I didn't finish Grave in the Woods and I thought I would, but it is a good book and I will finish tomorrow for sure.

Non-Book Activities: It was a weekend of family activities. I am not ready to leave for Montana. I still have to pack my suitcase and get my washing done. That will mean a later start than I wanted tomorrow, but sometimes that is the way things go. I did get a tag for my mother's van and it is ready to go. That is just in time because my sister's car broke down and she will need it to drive to Nebraska this weekend to meet her son. From there they will go on to the wedding in Bozemna.
