I have noticed that book covers have disappeared among my books on tags "philology bevilgende ord og uttrykk"

It appears all member-uploaded covers are broken for some works (but not all works?).
Examples:
https://www.librarything.com/work/21599398/covers
https://www.librarything.com/work/252467/covers
https://www.librarything.com/work/22627423/covers (for some reason one cover working out of 21)
https://www.librarything.com/work/22986099/covers
I assume it's an image server issue.
Also affecting "Recent Member-Uploaded Covers for Your Books" module on the home page.
ETA: I'm on Win11/Firefox

Most images uploaded to my Junk Drawer are inaccessible. When opening the image in a new browser tab, I get the following message:

Just looked again. I see them on the first page of my catalogue (I sort by entry date), but not subsequent pages, though I know I used member-uploaded covers for most of the books on that page.
Weird. I see them on the first page if I use Firefox, but not if I use Safari.

Missing book images on some of my books
14travelgirl-fics
i've got somewhere near 3000 books in LT, and if i had to guess, i'd say at least 15-20% are missing covers that used to have covers... i've tried reuploading images from places other than amazon, to no avail -- all are still missing, so the bug isn't limited to amazon uploads...
16waltzmn
>14 travelgirl-fics: >15 Brazen: I'm seeing it too. Probably the servers are suffering again. It may well be that someone will be able to reboot them in the morning. Let's hope.

I'm finding nothing but "broken link" images for these 2 books I just added and wanted to associate with member-uploaded covers:
Weather & Weather Forecasting
Weather: Air Masses, Clouds, Rainfall, Storms, Weather Maps, Climate
I'm on the web, a MacBook Pro (Sequoia 15.5) using Firefox (v140.0.4).

>17 LeslieWx: I also just tried to add a cover image for a new book, and it loaded as broken, and then now a good third of the cover images for books on the first page of Your Books are broken.
This is the website and I'm on a Dell laptop running Opera.
I just tried checking your two links and those cover images are broken for me too.

We'll get this solved Monday morning. We have great new image servers. But I'm betting a disk filled up.

The pics server has an expired SSL certificate. This is not something I can renew tonight. We will get on it tomorrow.

Not sure if this is related but there seems to be an issue with covers uploaded from the app. See this: https://www.librarything.com/work/34487114/covers/290745918. If I load either of the blank images in a new tab its a 1x1 pixel image. The non-blamk image was uploaded from the web (and replaced a previous app upload)
There are other covers I have been able to upload recently: https://www.librarything.com/work/14131051/covers/288753229

This may not be the right thread to ask but it’s as close as I could find. I picked up an old reference book today. Four other LT members have it but I couldn’t add it from the book page and none of the search sources had it so I did a manual entry. I can not add my pic of the cover which is blue nor could I pull up the cover others are using which is red. Nor could I retrieve the option to merge editions. It’s a Czech English dictionary with no publication date so I’m wondering if variations in spellings of the author’s name is causing the problem or if it’s because I entered the English title while it also had a Czech title that I’ve not tried? Advice please.
38gilroy
>37 varielle: Your copy probably needs to be combined with the other copies so you can find their covers.
39varielle
>38 gilroy: I agree but when I went to the helper function to do that I couldn’t get that option to come up. Very strange.
40waltzmn
>39 varielle: Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, the easiest way to combine works is to add them to your workbench and combine them there. Or if that's too hard, post links to the two works (ideally to the Combiners group) and others can help.

>40 waltzmn: Yesterday nothing worked. Today I fixed it with no problem. 🤷♀️

Hi,
The issue with missing covers still hasn’t been resolved 🫤
For several weeks now, I’ve only been able to see a few covers – perhaps the ones I uploaded myself.
Do you know if or when the problem will be resolved?
Kind regards.

>42 Erwan18: When I look at your catalogue, every book has a cover in the first two pages and the few I checked are from Amazon. Are you sure you haven't turned off Amazon covers in the settings? If that is not the issue, you need to either open a new thread or reopen this one and provide concrete examples and basic info like OS, browser etc.
44Erwan18
Thanks to your advice, I checked that the ‘Show Amazon covers’ option was ticked in ‘Cover Settings’. I then tried viewing my catalogue on different browsers (Vivaldi, Opera and Firefox). Most of them have security extensions, except Opera. And the tests show that on Opera I can see the covers fine, but not on Vivaldi or Firefox 😮 So it’s a browser update or an extension that’s blocking the display of Amazon covers. The problem isn’t with LibraryThing, then. Thanks for your reply.

There are some solutions posted by staff, at post#9 and #35, that might work for you.

Firefox: It depends on your security settings within Firefox and, it seems, different regions get different results because I don't get blocked here.
Click the little shield icon in the URL bar at the top of the browser and turn off "Enhanced Tracking Protection" if you are missing covers and that should fix it. (note that this WILL disable some security features within Firefox also, so you must decide if this is worth it for you).
You can also go into Privacy Settings and add an exception for LibraryThing to see if that will fix it without disabling the setting completely.

>47 conceptDawg: Neither turning off "Enhanced Tracking Protection" nor adding an exception for LibraryThing show Member images for me in Firefox Version 151.0.2 on a Dell Windows 10 desktop. They all show up in Safari (what version?) on an iPhone 14 Plus with iOS 26.5. Other suggestions?
ETA: FTR, my concern here is the inverse of https://www.librarything.com/topic/383850 in that Amazon images (which I have plenty of but only want as default of last-resort) show up just fine; it seems to be Member-loaded cover images (including my own uploads) that are broken.

>50 jasbro: It sounds like you might have an ad blocker that is blocking some of our domains for your browser. Or you're traffic is going through a VPN that is doing something similar. Maybe a "private relay" type feature on the OS?
Do you know if either of these applicable to you?
Also, you might try running the LT Service tester and see if any of those fail for you:

I've been having a different problem which might be related. For a while, in addition to most or all book covers not displaying, the layout of the rectangles representing the book covers seems to be going wrong, with a number below the bottom line for the others, and many oddly wide, with other layout irregularities.
I'm using Firefox. It looked better when I tried Chrome, which might help pinpoint the problem.

Again this morning, I uploaded two cover images that were immediately "broken" (i.e., not shown); and again, repeating the LT Service Tester (post 51 above) and the prior process (post 53 above) seems to have fixed whatever bug it is - for now.
It's not happening in Safari on myPhone, and it's not happening in Firefox on a Samsung laptop - only on this particular desktop. To my knowledge, there's no ad blocker nor VPN installed and running; those are on the laptop.
I'd be glad to test other theories, but it looks like I need to keep the LT Service Tester link close at hand for the foreseeable future ...

>58 jasbro: That's really odd. Because the service tester isn't "doing" anything. It's just your machine hitting the URLs directly and telling you if you can get to them from your location/browser settings.
But it is REALLY interesting though, from a nerd perspective. I'll have to investigate. Thanks for letting me know.
