I also noticed Severino's bio is not up to date: it says "he is" a professor, whilst he passed away some time ago.

The editions page shows the various ways the work has been entered. That is what it is for. The editions cannot be merged, because they are different. The person who entered it differently already edited their entry so that all copies are entered the same, but that still leaves a 0 copy edition with the other way of entering it. This is not a problem, it's the way LT 'editions' work.
If you don't like the current bio, you can enter a short bio in Common Knowledge, but that won't change the one pulled in from an outside source. You can also enter his death info in the various CK fields. It is rather unusual that this hasn't already been done, as I find it very difficult to be the first to come with that information when an author's death is announced.
