August SF&FKIT: Space
Welcome to the August SF&FKIT! When I think of science fiction, the very first thing that comes to mind is outer space: aliens, space travel, life on other planets, etc. So your challenge this month is to read something related to the theme of space. And remember, if a traditional outer-space adventure isn’t your thing, there are plenty of variations on the theme, from romance to humor to mysteries!

I've got a few options on my shelves, including Pride and Prejudice in Space by Alexis Lampley, Linesman by S.K. Dunstall, and Dark Run by Mike Brooks. But we'll see what I can get to in August!
Please share what you’re reading or planning to read below, and don’t forget to update the wiki: https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/2025_SF%26FKIT#August:_-_christina_reads...

I've got some anthologies and collections which I assume will include stories set in space. I'm also considering a Star Trek novel, A Stitch in Time by Andrew J. Robinson
4whitewavedarling
I'm going to plan on reading Ardulum by J.S. Fields, which I was gifted a while ago and still haven't gotten to.

If I remember correctly, I haven't read anything set in space so far, but I have How It Unfolds by James S. A. Corey on kindle. It is a short story, so it might be a good one to dip my toes into this genre.

If I get the new Elizabeth Bear, The folded sky, in time, that will fit nicely. Otherwise I have C S Friedman this virtual night on my shelf.
7amberwitch
I just finished Goldilocks yesterday, otherwise it would have been perfect for this topic. Recommended.

>1 christina_reads: I liked Linesman quite a bit, but the trilogy seemed somehow unfinished, as if should have continued, so at the end I was hoping for more.
9DeltaQueen50
I have completed my read of Drifters' Alliance 2 by Elle Casey for this month's theme of "Space". Now I am eager to read the 3rd book.
10KeithChaffee
I finished The New Space Opera, an anthology of original stories edited by Gardner Dozois and Jonathan Strahan.

I recently read and enjoyed Only Bad Options by Jennifer Estep, which I think is technically space opera even though most of the action takes place on various planets rather than in outer space per se.

I've been on a space kick this month. So far I've finished:
Vigilantes by Kristine Kathryn Rusch
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Beacon 23 by Hugh Howey
And I'm a little over half way through The Prefect by Alastair Reynolds.

I am now caught up with this crazy series of necromancer lesbians in space and I can't wait for the next book to come out! I can't recommend this series enough to anyone who thinks they may be even vaguely interested, with the caveat that the POV-character changes with each book, and each of these characters is an unreliable narrator (albeit for different reasons) so there is a lot that (by design) the audience doesn't fully understand on the first read-through, which is an experience that I know is not for everyone.

I'm re-reading The Sardonyx Net by Elizabeth A. Lynn. It starts in space, and interspace drug smuggling are its underlying theme. There are also some trigger themes of slavery and torture, and they are handled with deft writing that make it hard to put this book down.

I read How It Unfolds, a short story by James S. A. Corey, and I liked it very much.
17susanna.fraser
I finished The Stardust Grail by Yume Kitasei.
18amberwitch
I ended up reading both This Virtual Night and The Folded sky this month, both were fine, but neither were amongst the authors best.
19KeithChaffee
Finished another anthology of space opera stories: New Adventures in Space Opera, edited by Jonathan Strahan.
20Robertgreaves
I'm hoping to squeeze in a re-read of Tau Zero by Poul Anderson as one of the few books I have that are mostly set in space rather than on an alien planet.
21Robertgreaves
COMPLETED (just) Tau Zero by Poul Anderson about the scientists and crew on a spaceship that because of an accident cannot slow down without killing everyone on board.

Hello! Waving from ATL where Monday finished up yet another DragonCon, and I was not on LT last weekend.
I am happy to report that I finished The Sardonyx Net and will post both my link to the wikipage and to my thread here in a jiffy.
