>1 wcarter: Please note that all of the internal images in your post have been removed, at the request of the author/artist. She has stated that external images are fine, so those have been retained. I have also PM'd you about this, to give notice of this change.

Interesting - a publisher can control what photos of their book gets posted in a review. Would love to understand more - maybe share it publicly and not just via PM.

>3 What_What: I wonder why one would not want free press to book collectors about your book?!

Under fair-use laws in the USA you are allowed to show some images when making a point. For example, when reviewing the book you could include an image and say how wonderful it is etc. I think in the case of most books (Suntup, Lyra, CK, etc.) the publisher has already posted many if not all of the illustrations and those are not art books so sharing pics taken from the book is not a big deal and most enjoy the free publicity. In this case it sounds like the artist wants to protect most of their artwork.

>5 astropi: Very few sites actually really try to stick to the maximal interpretations of fair use too. If I had to guess the artist here is protective of their work and wanted to avoid relatively high res and front facing photos of their work being online. I would almost bet money on part of it being concerns about the photos appearing in training sets for image gen models

The other part is that the format of these may not really have sufficient commentary to count as a review for fair use purposes, and to some degree substitutes for the actual work itself. Most books in the review series are done by printers/publishers who would like to sell an edition and move on VS photographers who generally have a longer tail on photo sales and licensing.

>6 ensuen: I agree, and I wasn't trying to imply that the author/artist is in the wrong in any way, merely that per fair-use I can understand why the author wants the images removed.

>7 astropi: Yeah for sure, I basically wanted to note that all parties are acting in a rational way based on their world model and personal/group interests.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of the review series and am sad all of the interior photos got pulled.
