Fractured Whispers
In the quiet grove where we once roamed,
A twig snapped beneath our laughter—unfoamed.
Promises whispered like leaves in the breeze,
Now drift on the ground with too much unease.
Once, faith was a shelter, a canvas of dreams,
But shadows crept in and unraveled at seams.
Each bond that I forged now feels heavy and worn,
Love's gentle embrace left me tattered and torn.
I tread lightly on paths where trust used to grow,
Afraid of the echoes each heartbeat will sow.
The snap of that twig rings louder than before;
Fragile connections lost—my heart's weary core.
With eyes turned to hope yet my heart kept aside,
Still searching for warmth in a world that's denied.
Yet fear casts its net; it ensnares what is real—
For how can I risk another raw deal?
So here by this tree where all secrets take root,
I'll gather my courage as brittle as fruit—
And though past branches splinter under their own weight,
One day I'll find strength to brave love’s open gate.
In the quiet grove where we once roamed,
A twig snapped beneath our laughter—unfoamed.
Promises whispered like leaves in the breeze,
Now drift on the ground with too much unease.

Did you write that, Louis? Very nice. Few people seem to attempt rhyme nowadays.
3louisisaloafofbreb
Yep, I wrote it, and people normally just write what they feel, not rlly caring if it rhymes

Hi Lily
5timspalding
We should definitely have a thread for our own poems.
Fun fact: Before LibraryThing I made a site called BrambleStory, which was a place where you could post poems and people would critique them. It was fun and rather ahead of its time, because now there are several popular sites that do that. Most poems are dreadful!

Really old poem I found of mine
Skeletons hate life,
Darkness abides them,
A dark shadow,
Covered the walls...
But it will always be hidden,
In the darkness of night,
Until eventually,
It will end up on you..

Old poem #2
In the fall of someone's demise,
There will be something greatly dark,
A black rose,
A secret many may not know....
But it will always be hidden,
In the depths of the sea,
Until evening,
It will make you scream..
In the fall of someone's demise,
There will be something greatly dark,
A black rose,
A secret many may not know....
But it will always be hidden,
In the depths of the sea,
Until evening,
It will make you scream..

Hey Owl, those are great additions to your thread. Great timing too, skeletons, dark shadows, a black rose, and ending on a scream. Perfect for chilling October!

Forgot about this one!
In twilight's glow, where shadows dance and play,
Two lovers whispered secrets night and day.
With eyes like stars, they promised skies so blue,
Yet one heart strayed; betrayal’s bitter dew.
In the garden where their laughter grew bright,
A hidden touch turned trust to shade of night.
Petals fell from roses once held dear—
Now thorns whisper warnings filled with fear.
"Forgive me," cried the traitor in a plea,
But words like broken glass cut painfully.
The moon bore witness to love’s fragile thread,
As truth unraveled softly — hope lay dead.
Yet somewhere deep beneath deceit's cruel stain,
An ember flickered through the racking pain.
For hearts can mend when shattered by regret;
In sorrow's silence lies a chance reset.
So shall they learn through loss what love can gain:
To cherish honest light amid the rain.
Though cracks mar beauty in this lasting bond,
They’ll find new paths — perhaps not far beyond.
And as two souls reflect on wounds laid bare,
They'll weave anew a tapestry to share;
For love is vast—its journey long and steep—
Beyond betrayal lies a promise deep.

Finally have a new poem to share!
27louisisaloafofbreb
That you are here - that life exists and identity,
That death expired in the years of agony,
Mothers twist and turn in blight --
Showers blast the rain and tune --
As melodies mast the flow of birds
Rivers flowing through mountains above
Life is a bright song rushing through the choirs
Games like chess blame people as a pawn
Pawns can be played unlike a lion in a circus
But lions can escape like a gecko in the night
That death expired in the years of agony,
Mothers twist and turn in blight --
Showers blast the rain and tune --
As melodies mast the flow of birds
Rivers flowing through mountains above
Life is a bright song rushing through the choirs

>27 louisisaloafofbreb: Wonderful! So very glad you have given us another of your poems to enjoy. During National Poetry Month, too ❤️
Wow, you've got some fantastic imagery going on in such a compact space.
I love this. Really, really love it.
And the close proximity, a similarity of lions and geckos? I love how that was so unexpected, and evocative.
Inner rhymes, oh my. Lovely to hear. You have a great ear.
Keep writing! And when you can, keep sharing here, please.

I don't even know how to start another poem....I always got the start in class...
31louisisaloafofbreb
Happiness is a mask,
A wilted flower hiding through the bloom
Worms sinking through the soil,
A soul in the darkened dirt
That's a semi start maybe....I gotta figure out a way to finish it tho

>30 louisisaloafofbreb: I know this is old advice, said a hundred different ways, but if you want to write, write.
Every day. Even if it's crap.
That's true with other Arts too. like music and painting, or gardening or skip-rope (ha!). Also all artists expose themselves to other artists. So, reading poetry every day might be inspirational too. I know it does take time, but we all make time for the stuff we love. If you wanted poet suggestions, you might pose that question as a Topic in The Poetry Collective. Maybe the younger poets (or poets when they were young) would be of special inspiration for you. Or...anything at all that you are drawn to. Someone might have a good match suggestion for you.
You have talent.

>31 louisisaloafofbreb: One of the things I know as I write, is that my poems go through a lot of iterations as I go along. They seem to have a mind of their own and as I work with them, the ending suddenly appears. I don't know if that is a common process, though.
This start you have reminds me a bit of the great Dylan Thomas' poem, written when he was 18. "The force that through the green fuse drives the flower"

>33 louisisaloafofbreb: Great poets, both. They've each inspired thousands of poets through the years. And those poets who were so inspired by Dickinson & Whitman, then go on to inspire other, younger poets.
Dickinson & Whitman are perfect starting points for an upcoming American poet.
Are you enjoying them? Which do you prefer? (Horrid question, that. Sorry.)

There's no change
When someone lay dying
The life in their eyes fixed
People want to scream
A scared melody of pain
A second to ask why

Poem 2 ~ Made by me and my class.
Spring chill
Dirty blue sky
thoughts fleeting
with the yellow of the sun
Hiding behind clouds
Friends lost, forgiven
Don't know, mom
but I cant escape this
this breeze stings
goosebumps raised on my soul, my skin
