Hi all,
I am trying to remember the name of a series of books I read I think back in the 90s but I am not sure if they were written then or many years previous.
The series follows a woman whose mother died and she is going thru her belongings. She finds a necklace/locket that transports her to an alternate world that seems more on the medieval side with castles, knights, and ladies in big dresses, etc, but also the people there have machine guns.
The woman finds out her mother is actually from this world but escaped to our world either to save her daughter or fleeing from something, I cannot remember which.
The woman goes back and forth between the worlds and finds out that someone else also goes between them to bring weapons, such as the machine guns, to help conquer neighboring fiefdoms.
I hope I have given enough information so you can help me remember this series as I am interested in reading it again.

Interestingly, someone else asked about this series just last month. Charles Stross’s The Merchant Princes series, starting with The Family Trade in 2004. The dates are not in the 1990s, but I don't know any other possibility with those plot points.

I looked it up and they are from the early 2000s. I thought 90s but I was wrong. :) Cheers!
