There are two aspects to reprinting a work in copyright.
1. Getting permission. That can prove to be difficult/impossible or take a long time to obtain. OTOH, it can happen lickety split.
2. Permission fees. The fees charged for permission can be hair-raising, but a fee is always charged.
Large fees add to our costs, of course, and will ultimately affect what you have to pay for the book; just one more factor in production costs.
