>4 A.Nobody: I see the thread title was adjusted, but I was really referring to the EP page :) You'd think for an $840 book they would get the title correct. And is it really 11 5/16" x 18 5/16"? That seems quite mammoth.

As I hovered over your name, your primary photo came up. I see you are a fan of Copperhead Press as well. I think they are doing great work.

>7 sdawson: Yes, they have been doing quality work, and I like the direction of their title choices.

The height is probably correct. “The Raven” DLE is 18 inches tall.

EP used to publish a lot of oversized books, but after purchasing several I realized how useless they were unless I was willing to sit at a desk in an uncomfortable chair. It was too much like office work. Now I rarely buy a book taller than 11 inches, and I find that I can read them comfortably on my lap. I’ve made a few exceptions where the art is spectacular.

>9 jroger1: What would give me pause is, compared to The Raven's 120 pages, Metamorphoses is over 600 pages. The dimensions and weight of this book would make it very challenging to read comfortably. And for over $800, I wouldn't want a challenging reading experience.

>9 jroger1: >10 A.Nobody: do people who purchase these oversized editions consider them art rather than books to read?

>11 Neil_Luvs_Books:

I have bought such editions only because I enjoyed the art, but I do read them, if not comfortably.

>11 Neil_Luvs_Books:
Usually both. I rarely buy a book I don’t expect to read, although there have been exceptions. “The Raven” must have been reproduced hundreds of times, so there is no reason to buy another edition other than the beauty of the book itself and the art.

>11 Neil_Luvs_Books: I have definitely made that choice many times. Usually have another copy that is smaller and easier to read. I’m a sucker for wonderfully illustrated and beautifully bound books 📚

I love this book and want it my only issue: it is a very old translation which is very hard to read/understand.

I went ahead and bought it. I am a sucker.
