>2 GSSex-noob: You are correct. The four books are peak Vance - very funny, and they actually have a satisfying ending, rather than just, "I have hit my word count for this sale, so everyone lived happily ever after."

I read the first book long ago, when I was too young to appreciate Vance’s humour. I have a this vague intention to give it another chance someday.

I am overdue for a return to Vance. I read only the first of his Dying Earth books, and I remember it as delightfully like James Branch Cabell on acid.
