Suggestions to make Inventory Stock check easier.
RFC. Part 1
Add “inventory status” to the allowable fields for the SQL to filter on it (and sort see below)
It is already able to be displayed as a column and sorted.
Ref: https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/%22Your_books%22_Search#Search_Fields
RFC. Part 2
Add “invstatus” as an abbreviation for “inventory status” to the allowable fields
RFC. Part 3
Add the ability to sort on up to three keys
Major Key
Minor Key
Tertiary Key
allowable keys to sort on are
None
Author
MDS
OtherCallNumber
Inventory Status
Tag (i.e. first tag if more than one)
Example:
majorsort:InventoryStatus minorsort:OtherCallNumber tertiarysort:MDS
If you wanted to allow sort ascending or descending, the sort keywords could be majorsortA and majorsortD etc , otherwise sort ascending by default.
Implementation issue: It is suggested that if the sort keywords above are used and are active, then ability to sort by clicking on the column header should be disallowed. i.e. which takes precedence your sort criteria or the column criteria.
RFC. Part 4
Add Inventory Status to SearchFieldDropDownPickList (SFDDPL)
This would make it very easy to filter a collection by a particular inventory status e.g. Not Present
RFC. Part 5
If LibraryThing has been implemented with location as a tag e.g. A-Attic, B-Basement L_Lounge, or FOO-Food and Drink, SPO-Sport or by whatever system chosen, then providing the “location” tag is the first tag, then it will be possible to sort by location
If LibraryThing has been implemented with location in OtherCallNumber e.g. A-Attic, B-Basement L_Lounge, or FOO-Food and Drink, SPO-Sport or by whatever system chosen, then it will be possible to sort by location using OtherCallNumber
RFC. Part 6
With virtually no system impact the following would be possible, assuming the colour is held as a single character on the database
It is suggested to add three extra colours to Inventory Status to be used by user as they see fit. e.g. On extended loan, not there but still looking, damaged, needing repair etc, or assigned Mary or Bill for further investigation where Mary &Bill are staff members. The user can use the extra colours or not as they see fit.
Assuming the system keeps inventory status as a single character, the following is suggested
B - Blue
G - Green (i.e. Present)
O - Orange
P - Pink
R - Red (i.e. Not present)
U - Unknown (currently Grey)(i.e. no value)
In Power edit mode there would need to be an extra tab (Inventory Status) similar in design to the Collections tab but with tickbox/radio button for each of the colours i.e. Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, Red, Grey/Unknown
There should be an easy way to set all books in a given location to Grey (unknown) before doing a stocktake for that location.
When doing the stock take, assume all the books have been set to Grey (Unknown).
Then with mouse pointer over book’s status circle, then click sets the colour as follows
Left Click Green (Present)
Right Click Red (Not present)
Double Left Click Blue
Double Right Click Cycles through colours (starting at Unknown)
Unknown, Green, Red, Blue, Orange, Pink, Unknown etc
possibly you could also have (for quicker selection or if mouse not working)
OPT+U Unknown (Grey). OPT= Option key (or Command/Windows Key}
OPT+B Blue
OPT+G Green
OPT+O Orange
OPT+P Pink
OPT+R Red
Part 7
Include Inventory Status as a field in the export spreadsheet file and as a filter in the selection/filter dialogue prior to the export.
