The Magic Noir Bundle - Curated by Simon Kewin

What happens when the bad guy that lurks in the shadows of the street actually is one of the shadows?

Welcome to a collection of works that fall under the magic noir umbrella: gritty worlds full of supernatural danger and mystery. And rain. Quite a bit of rain. These are stories about investigators solving mysteries, uncovering dark truths and facing impossible odds. Here you'll find worlds where magic works, but where it isn't always the sparkly, easy sort of sorcery that sets everything conveniently right. You'll find fascinating, twisted worlds aplenty – such as the gloriously dark and gritty Mushroom Blues with its unique and cool world-building.

Quite a few of these books contain cynical and world-weary magic-wielders, or investigators who fear the very powers they wield. They're cynical or wisecracking characters, battling demons that are sometimes in their heads – but which are sometimes, you know, demons. For them, magic can be as destructive to the spell-worker as its target. You'll find characters who operate in the grey areas between right and wrong – and whose idea of right and wrong may itself be debatable. Quite often, like Mennik Thorn in Shadow of a Dead God, our hero has a heart of gold, but somehow things never seem to work out as intended.

Some of the worlds these characters inhabit will be familiar, because they're our world: the towns we live in, or familiar cities set in different times, places whose history isn't at all what we thought it was – for example in Resurrection Men, set in 19th century Glasgow, or New York Minute set in an alternate vision of that city. Some books involve present-day supernatural investigative organisations – such as those found in The Dark Elf Dynasty or The Eye Collectors.

Other books, meanwhile, are set firmly in a fantasy world, where the rules of magic might be different, and the world may be full of wonder, but where the challenges and dangers the characters face are just as terrifying. Maybe more terrifying. And some of the books are set in worlds that may or may not be our own, where everything we thought we understood turns out to be misguided delusion – such as the deliciously dark Madame Antic's Hotel Grotesque .

We have grimdark works – The Hallows or Legacy of Brightwash – and steampunk worlds, such as those found in Dexter and Sinister: Detecting Agents – but there are glimmers of light in the darkness, too, for example with the more light-hearted Duckett & Dyer: Dicks for Hire.

Whatever your tastes, you're sure to find something to relish and intrigue in this fantastic collection of magic noir. – Simon Kewin

The 2026 Pride Bundle - curated by Catherine Lundoff and Melissa Scott

It's Pride again, and time for another queer-themed bundle! At a time when the community is once again under threat, we felt it was more important than ever to showcase the work and the writers that celebrate us. We looked for books that show queerness in all its complexity, with stories that range from pure adventure to profoundly serious, and from across the range of identities that make up our whole. We looked for stories that showcased that many and complex forms that queerness takes — the many ways that we have chosen to be. We looked for stories that engage with threats to the queer world, and for stories that imagine what we might be without threats, for stories that celebrate our joy and our resilience.

And we're pleased to say that we have found those stories, and more. If anything, the hardest part of curating this bundle was narrowing down the field: there are so many writers out there creating intelligent, nuanced, queer science fiction and fantasy that it's incredibly hard to choose among them. This is not to claim that this is a definitive LGBTQIA+ collection — given the ever-growing amount of stellar queer writing being published, we're not sure that's even possible. Instead, we thought of the bundle as a sampler, or perhaps a tasting menu. It includes novels, novellas, single author collections, and anthologies; the genres range from fantasy mysteries to cyberpunk to far future to post-apocalyptic fantasy. There are newer works and writers, and some older work you may have missed when it first appeared. It's your chance to read work by some of the best writers working today.

StoryBundle has always allowed its patrons to donate part of the payment to a related charity, and this year we're once again supporting Rainbow Railroad, a NGO that helps LGBT+ people escape state-sponsored persecution and violence worldwide. Their work is needed now more than ever, and if you choose, you can donate part of the bundle's purchase price to them — a gift that can save a life. – Catherine Lundoff and Melissa Scott

The Seriously Funny Bundle - curated Alex Shvartsman

Comedy may be hard, but finding good funny books to read should be easy.

Some years ago I realized that there wasn't nearly enough science fiction and fantasy humorous short stories being published out there. A typical anthology might include a humor story or two, usually at the end of the book. Sometimes a humorous themed anthology would pop up, but so many stories trying hard to be funny on theme could get a bit tiresome, reducing the enjoyment of it all. So, I decided to do something about out, and Unidentified Funny Objects was born.

The idea was to collect funny SF/F stories without a specific subject or theme. Rather, I wanted to feature as many different kinds of humor as possible, from satire and slapstick to puns and parody, and everything in-between. The anthology was a success. It sold over 100,000 copies to date, and is still going strong. Over the following fifteen years I've edited a total of ten UFO volumes, as well as the spinoffs of Funny Science Fiction, Funny Fantasy, and Funny Horror. We continue to feature grandmasters of the genre alongside new authors—many of our early contributors have since gone on to become giants of the field.

Likewise, there are only a handful of humorous genre novels are published every year. So, given the opportunity to curate a bundle, I wanted to do for novels what I've been doing for short stories – offer you, kind reader, a wide-ranging selection of all kinds of funny, amusing, and downright hilarious books for a very low price. And yes, of course there are several anthologies thrown in, including the latest UFO book which was only published last month. – Alex Shvartsman
