Augment Your Data Settings

We've added some new settings related to augmented catalog data.

Go to Settings, and then find Other Settings. There you'll find a new section: "Augment Your Data" which allows you to pick whether to display the ISBN-/Work-Level data for various fields. The fields are DDC, LCC, List Price, and the physical fields: dimensions, weight, pages, and volumes. Unchecking the boxes will hide the green ISBN-/Work-Level data for the field from the catalog, edit book page, and book detail page.

By default, these are checked, so no change will be seen if you don't uncheck them.

Let us know what you think!

>4 .mau.: I can't help wondering if this account has been hacked, as it seems very unlike the member.

I nearly flagged it before I realised it was a joke about the thread title.

>2 PawsforThought: Aren't you just correcting the incorrect data in your catalogue?

I mean I see this as a way to turn off features people don't want or care about.

>7 gilroy:

Yes, this is a "turn it off" feature, in response to requests to have us NOT augment data. But I wanted it to be expressed positively, not another "Take this away from me!"

>7 gilroy: I’m correcting the wrong data if it’s data I have. But I only add things like physical descriptions for books I actually own, which is a minority of the books I have catalogued. So until this fix (which I have asked for repeatedly and am thrilled about getting) the stuff I didn’t fill in was auto-populated with data that was 99,5% wrong.

>5 MarthaJeanne: it should have been a joke (with the ^H meant to remove the letters, like in the Good Old Times), but it was not caught :-( Maybe I should have stopped at PEN.

>10 .mau.: Not funny. Very objectionable. Perhaps typical for a boy's changing room, but not suitable for mixed company.

I don't want to embiggen this controversy.
