Titles with a description attached

So I went to add a book "The Hospital at the End of the World" and what pulls up is "The Hospital at the End of the World: A Suspenseful Sci-Fi Medical Thriller About AI Dominance and Family Secrets". That's not the real title, why does Amazon list the book like this? I know I can edit the title for my own account.

God only knows why Amazon does anything.

But you can actually fix this on the Work page by using the canonical title field in the Common Knowledge section. Just enter the correct title and “recalculate title”.

If you don't like Amazon's titles you can use a different source.

LoC does not include the description you object to.

Enough people have entered this without the description that a canonical title is not needed. Using canonical title does not override the title of your entry.

That is almost always the sign of an Indy Author trying to beat an algorithm.

I saw a discussion on bluesky among authors, and one suggestion was it's an attempt to get attention around all the "sponsored" and amazon crud, plus chasing BookTok readers. Yeah it's true of even the most mainstream new books now. Amazon titles of any book are crap.

The Correspondent (published by Penguin Random House) comes from Amazon with the title "The Correspondent: Radio 2 Book Club Pick - a witty and uplifting novel told through one woman's unforgettable letters" or "The Correspondent: 'The book I’m giving everyone for Christmas’ The Times"
James (winner of the Pulitzer Prize, also Penguin Random House) comes from Amazon with the title "James: The Powerful Reimagining of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the Booker Prize-Shortlisted Author of The Trees"

I hate this and will usually fix my title ASAP.

Thanks everyone for your input. I've definitely been editing my titles in my personal library and looking for other sources when searching a title to add.
