Church library

We have an existing library in our church, and would like to set up a way to cross reference the books. Ex- topic (prayer)/author. It needs to be user friendlyand as simple to use as possible. Is there software to do this?
We do not want to go online- just make it available on a computer in the room.

LibraryThing is only available online.

How much pain do you want to take for going offline? I think Koha might work, but you'd need someone to set it up. There is a group here for people "hacking LibraryThing" but it is very quiet, so I don't think many are trying to do something like you suggest.

A better solution might be to run TinyCat in kiosk mode, but if you use amazon to provide cover images and bibliographic information that makes a link to amazon mandatory (there is a current thread about that).

But please share your thoughts here. I think the question is interesting. Years ago I helped run an Aleph library, so I've been tempted to look into Koha, but LibraryThing works too well to justify it. In my opinion, at least.

Back before LT, I had a database for my books, just with standard database software that my husband had on the computer anyway. It worked fine, was not difficult to set up, but I would not want to go back to that. I like the extras LT gives me. I like having access to reviews. Even just seeing which of my books are more commonly owned is useful to me. LT gives you circulation possibilities.

Oh, yes. Once a friend decided she didn't like my colour scheme and messed it all up. You want to make sure nobody can edit the database.
