Fiction, sci-fi (possibly mixed with romance). I remember reading the book in 1985-86. I’ve always thought the title was YAR, but I’ve never been able to find it again. It was a thick paperback, like the kind you would buy at the grocery.
I remember that the main character (woman?) was taken from earth and arrived on a new planet. She was taken to the capital in a self-driving car. I feel like the book went into specifics about how the car worked using magnets. I also feel like there was something about gold, or maybe the cover was gold.
I was very into both sci-fi and romance at the time and my neighbor gave me this book.

>1 Kim_Reynolds_Rader: I can't find much about the plot, but could it be Yargo? (strictly based on the name and the fact that it seems to be romanc-y and science ficton-y)

OMG, I think that is it! Wow, the reviews all look horrible, but I was 14 and devoured romance books from the grocery store each week. I can't believe I have an answer after less than 24 hours! And the cover is gold. :D Thank you for solving this mystery for me. Going to reread and enjoy the trashiness.
