The Mecca of books. Someday I will go to Portland and see the sights, but all my life I've only gone to do a specific event and then to go spend a day at Powells.

I am lucky enough to live in Portland, it only takes 10 minutes to get to this store. It's still not close enough. One of my great fantasies is Powells adding a few stories of condos above the Burnside store. Or you know, annexing another city block and putting the condos there. Of course, this fantasy includes a job at Powells. They could just keep my paycheck, for the rent and all the books I'd be getting. I could probably go on... and on and on and on...

I don't think you can really get it until you've been in a bookstore with more than a million books. It messes with your head.

I visited Portland once and fell in love with Powells; the ultimate second hand book buyers fantasy.

It's a bit of a trek from the UK but I would love to go back. More bookshops should be this big and this great.

This place really is the best bookstore in the world. I visited Seattle and rented a car and drove to Portland for a day just so I could go to Powell's. Great experience.

As Irene Adler is THE woman, so Powell's is THE bookstore.

We are huge fans of reading, and so of course we had to visit Powell’s! It is so cool inside and there are just so many books to look at, we came home with so many amazing books for all of the family. Definitely will visit again!
