...that murderous light.
Without the Earth's atmosphere, that is what the sun's radiation would be, murderous light. What would that be like? Like the moon. Barren, gray. Unprotected from meteors that will not burn up in the atmosphere, but instead, hit with full force.
And that is the time in cosmic history where Qwfwq is now in this story, before the Earth had an atmosphere. He was engulfed in grayness, and shadows, virtually alone.
Until one day he sees movement, gray movement among the shadows, and confesses that even before he meets her, that gray movement, he is in love with Ayl.
They speak, very haltingly, as if they are sure not to understand one another. They spend time traversing the landscape, playing hide and seek of a kind, and sleep together at night.
But when the atmosphere does come, slowly, then quickly, and light and colors and shapes and forms, and the beginnings of green life, they do not react the same way. Ayl is frightened by it, dislikes it immensely, and leaves Qwfwq who wants to enjoy these new wonders with her. It is not something they will ever agree on. He finds her once more and has a last ditch effort to entice her to love the new light. Instead, they are separated by one of the many erupting volcanoes, and he never sees her again.
Ayl's disappearance leaves a grayness in Qwfwq's spirit. He no longer enjoys the reds, the oranges, the greens, and the blues, all the shapes and forms he can now discern. She was the light and shape he loved most.

Sometimes I need to go "back to school."
