Read in Ohio, USA. Has to be from the 70's or 80's, (or before, definitely not after) borrowed from the library.
This would have been in the kids' section, probably for a pre-teen audience.
Basically what I remember:
Set in the US. A little girl moves to a new house, and becomes great friends with the neighbor girl. One day they are playing in the yard riding in the pony cart and they crash. She's scared and runs home. The next day she goes back over to see her friend only the place looks like no one has lived there in an extremely long time. She finds an old broken dusty pony cart.
I used to think this had "Garden" somewhere in the title, but I can't be sure.... it's been so very long!!
