Change Author

Hi, I'm sure this has been asked many times. Is there a way to change the author on right hand side of the page? For example - Lolita (1962) Soundtrack is showing as Ennio Morricone - he composed the 1997 remake. When cataloguing soundtracks, my preferred way is either by Director or Author - in this example it would be Nabokov. Stanley Kubrick & the composer Nelson Riddle would be listed under Other Authors.

Thank you for any help

>1 DLJM:

You can enter it in any way you want in your own catalog, but you cannot change other people’s data.

Thank you lilithcat

I have in the past sometimes found a solution by clicking recalculate / title / author but this did not work, so I deleted my entry and added it manually.

You can edit your entry, you know.

It is probably my odd way of cataloguing, but here I want to change Anthony Hopkins into Alistair Maclean. I suspect that to achieve this one must enter it manually rather than add it from an external source such as Amazon.

>5 DLJM: You cannot change that author in the right sidebar. It's the calculated most used author for that work by all who entered it. And in cases with multiple authors, it only shows one. In the central part of the work page there's a module Author Information, which contains all the other confirmed authors. The right sidebar is just quick info at a glance

You can edit your own record, including assigning roles like director, actor, screenwriter, etc.

>5 DLJM: Two things: First, It would be so much simpler to just edit your book (as >4 MarthaJeanne: suggests) and change the author from Anthony Hopkins to Alistair Maclean. Second, Amazon and manual entry are far from your only two choices. There are thousands of available sources that are better than Amazon, but don't require manual entry. If you need help with editing or choosing a source, just ask. People here are glad to help.

Thank you everyone for your help. I did manually change it in my entry (as in first posted picture), but this did not reassign the author in the right sidebar. Perhaps, I don't understand how to do this. I'm not the most computer savvy. Anyway, I re-entered the title manually and solved it. I should be better than I am on this site, considering how much I use it. A big thank you to everyone who works behind the scenes for such a fantastic site

As was said above, it won't. That's a calculation based on the biggest slice of data here on LT. You have the movie and not the book itself, so I wouldn't say it was "written" by MacLean, but by the director.

>9 Bookmarque: Ah, but in many cases I have the book, the soundtrack and DVD. As in MacLean's Puppet On A Chain. I like to keep them all together. So, the priority is with the book's author then director. But I always list composer ,director and cast under the other author section.

Well, they're not the same things, are they? If I go to your house and want to watch the movie and all you have is the soundtrack, listed as the movie, I'll be SOL won't I? That's why we track discrete works here. You can connect them via tags or collections or through work-to-work relationships. The movie wasn't made by Alistair MacLean, but adapted from his book. That's the difference.

But in my library the soundtrack is not listed as a movie, it's listed as: Puppet On A Chain (Ost) (CD). The picture next to it is of the soundtrack. The movie is listed as Puppet On A Chain (DVD). The movies were not directed by Alistair Maclean but he did write the screenplays for both Puppet and Eight Bells Toll. When viewing my catalogue from A-Z I like to see the titles together.

Well, I guess I'm extrapolating from the many covers of yours I've had to flag as inapplicable to this work that are for soundtracks not movies, but are uploaded for the movie not the soundtrack. So your catalog is yours to do with what you like, but for me, I'd list the director as the main "author" and the screenplay writer as just that.

What you have done is create a new work that is not combined with the main work. It should be combined, and when it is you will again have the same work author as everybody else. In your catalogue it will sort by the author you have set.
