I'm looking for an Oxford University Press book read in the early 1980s about a half-Native American/half-white girl in a very early settlement in the US. I think she is the daughter of the governor and she has a half-brother who is fully white. She is looked down on by her brother (and others) for her Native American heritage. She joins an expedition dressed as a Native American with her brother and builds a relationship with her brother after saving him from various dangers and proving her competence. I think her name is Tamara but am not sure.

Found it - it's called "The Golden Horseshoe" by Elizabeth Coatsworth about Tamar and her brother, Roger. Published in 1935 so old even when I read it!

touchstone: The Golden Horseshoe

1935! This sounds like one I'd be interested in tracking down
