IPad vs Apple MacBook Air

I’m upgrading my hardware for using LibraryThing. Has anyone had success using an Apple IPad? Currently using old MacBook Pro at the end of its life.
Thanks.

Like anything, it probably depends on what you're doing. For me, I use an iPad to consume and my Macbook to produce. So for editing pictures, writing reviews, catalog entries or participating in talk here or elsewhere, I can't do without a keyboard. Sometimes when traveling, I bring a tiny keyboard to use with the iPad and it suffices for the trip. No issues with using either on LT.

You'll still want to use the LibraryThing web site, not the app, even if you use an iPad. And you will really want a keypad for the iPad. The iPad camera can perhaps make it easier to photograph covers than doing it with a phone or the like.

On the other hand, if you are doing thing like bulk import and export, a computer makes this much easier. If I had my choice, I'd still prefer a computer, but it's not an overwhelming preference.

(By the way, this is Dorothy and Fred Waltz's son.)

I use an old iPad almost exclusively for accessing LibraryThing (via the website—I rarely use the app and then almost always on my iPhone) and for virtually everything else I do on a computer. My iPad is very old (5th gen, iPadOS 16.7.15), and more recent click-and-drag features (e.g., for reordering collections or changing the number of rows in book cover displays such as on the Recent Recommendations and Recently Added home page modules) work very poorly if they work at all. But everything else works just fine. I have an external keyboard, so that helps.

>3 waltzmn: My original question was not descriptive enough. My specific problem is I entered an original record using IPad, on website, and when I went to save, it would not save. First time I had used IPad, so not sure if this is normal issue or not. Planning to replace my IPad or MacBook and was hoping to drop one of them. But want to keep the one that is best for using LibraryThing for cataloging books.

Not sure what happened in your case, but I've never had a problem adding books to my catalog using my IPad.

iPad has always worked fine for me.

Not happy with the new one I bought today. Very heavy, but my 9 year old one was beginning to have issues. LT still worked, just not a lot of other things.

It has all sorts of fancy new stuff. How fast can I get rid of those things?

>5 1666.Coffman.Library: If it's truly a matter of choice, I'd go with the Mac. For entering books, it truly doesn't matter. But the computer can be better for other things on LT. That's not a strong preference, though.

Regarding your glitch on the iPad: My personal advice would be to try it a few more times, and if it still doesn't work, write up the bug report. As others are saying, it usually works.
