They are visible and useable but not tied to your account (i.e. they show up as "by private user").
The only data that is not visible is the relationship you have to the book (i.e. that you have it in your catalog) and certain parts of the records (reviews for example can be private).
Anything that goes into the aggregated data (tags for example) or work/author level common knowledge or details is available for anyone; it just does not get tied to you publicly.
