Hi, everyone,
Been trying to find this book since the internet was a thing and Google still can't help me at the AI age. Here's what I remember:
First, I've read as a child in the mid 1980s. So it was published on, or before, 1986 or so.
1- A brother and sister somehow stumble into a world where fairy tale characters are real.
2- At some point, there is an invisible person - dwarf? - who talks to them at an inn.
3- At some other point, the girl meets Snow White.
4- The book was written by an American engineer. Yes, they noted that on the back cover and I still recall that detail when I can't remember most of the book.
And that, I'm afraid, is all I can remember. Google found all other childhood books for me. But even at its AI age it can't recognize this one. Color it, and me, stumped.
Thanks ahead!

I've scanned through the covers and didn't see a likely pre-1980s candidate, but perhaps you might spot it.

L. Sprague de Camp was a prolific mid-century American Scifi/Fantasy author, and yes, an engineer by training. He wrote a number of items that might fit.
