It looks like a very nice edition, but I think based on previous LEs most people were expecting the price to be around $1000 not over twice that! If it was letterpress printed I would probably be tempted (despite the very high cost), but I'm sure it's offset.

Garish and juvenile to me

Zero interest in this, but I am fascinated to see how well it sells. It's essentially lettered edition price but with 1000 copies instead of 26!! Is this the first time a company has attempted to sell this many books at such a price? Could well be. The closest comparison may be to Folio's LotR LE, but that was much less, three books and a complete work.

>5 Levin40: I do not recall the FS releasing a LE at this price point before. That said, @wcarter I'm sure knows much better than I do. The most expensive LE I can recall is The Waste Land ($1500) which is magnificent and printed letterpress and limited to 250 copies. Also, it's often on sale!

>6 astropi:
Most expensive FS books - Luttrell Psalter LE 2006. £1090 (that would be over £2000 in 2026 allowing for inflation)
- The Waste Land LE 2022 US$1500 (available USA & Canada only).
But the most expensive FS items were
- Leaves from a Psalter 2012 £1250
- Bayeux Tapestry scroll £1950

To me the Luttrell Psalter was well worth the money considering what you got there. That being said, I got it second hand for 384 Pounds in 2014. I still can't quite believe it. It's a real gem.

I do remember Night Thoughts was an expensive undertaking, but it was also one of the most magnificent LEs they ever produced and the only edition that reprints all of Blake's illustrations in color. So really, you couldn't get it anywhere else. As for GoT, not exactly hard to find a LE! I do wonder if Suntup or Curious King will produce a letterpress edition at some point...

>9 astropi: A letterpressed GoT would be quite something, considering the length. Suntup recently charged $2000 for an offset rendition of Under the Volcano, which is crazy, so I can only imagine what GoT would cost.

I'm not surprised, just disappointed. I wouldn't be shocked if the signatures were glued in, even at this price.

>10 Izdubar: To be fair that was the lettered. The numbered was $550. The numbered Suntup letterpress Divine Comedy was $895. If Suntup or other publishers would publish a letterpress GoT in the $1000 -- 1500 range I think it would sell very well.

>11 Zoopa: Yeah, that's a really good point. You would hope for this price it would be a letterpress printed and sewn-in signature page, but who knows.
