Found: Possibly related memories, Teardrop Island, mare, slavery

I have these memories of several books, which I believe are related. This post is long-winded, so here we go.

First, I remember one of the books where they were at camp and had a canoeing competition (I believe). I am specifically remembering it because I like Ceylon tea, which is from Sri Lanka, a teardrop-shaped island. In the book, they go to Teardrop Island.

Second, I remember a book during the Civil War where the Black female protagonist has to leave her baby sister baby because she would make too much noise and alert the slave owner.

I remember another book where a girl was getting ready for a concert (?) and got a cold from drying her hair naturally.

Yet another book involved a racoon (?) that started a house fire.

Lastly, I remember a girl who loved a mare that eventually had a colt.

The second memory would be from Meet Addy.

Getting ready for a concert is probably Changes for Molly.

The raccoon knocking over an oil lamp is Changes for Kirsten.

And the mare and colt would be from one of Felicity's books.

And I believe in the same series there is a book where a girl befriends another girl, an orphan, who works in a factory. She is in poor health and gives the main character important information about factory conditions, which the girl then makes a speech about in school.
