A living mountain that tried to trap an alien and includes a dog

I read this book sometime in the mid-80's, so it was written then or maybe a few decades before. It takes place in a rural setting on Earth. I don't remember much, except there was a mountain nearby that was alive in a sense, but it never spoke.
The mountain traps the alien, and in order to free the alien, the main character (I believe a teenage boy) has to go into the mountain for 100 years. As he's walking into the mountain, he sees his dog outside waiting for him. He tries to go back outside, but the mountain seals him in and traps him. The book then cuts to a scene with the dog who spends the rest of its outside the mountain waiting for him.
Then he wakes up 100 years in the future and walks outside the mountain, and I remember him thinking that he could hear cars. The alien comes back down and offers to take him up to space. He takes him up on the offer and that's the end of the book.
