Heading for the bottom?

Listeners to Radio 3 - and other channels - are repeatedly encouraged to listen to Radio 3 Unwind. Are their audience figures really poor? If so, does it matter one bit ? Classical music has become “therapy”? The mind bogglesd.

They hit bottom a very long time ago; their policy is to play only that music which is unchallenging to listen to. This includes the minimalists and a number of other composers whose music is unoriginal, derivative, and backward looking. I am speaking of the flagship morning show called "Essential classics", a total misnomer if ever there was one. Some people have even written letters to "Private Eye" magazine about this. The BBC entertains, but it has forgotton to educate and inform when it comes to serious music.
