I tried to alias https://www.librarything.com/a/18841384 (which is John Hill (28)) into https://www.librarything.com/a/11482185/John-Hill-Jr.
Using the tail-end of the url, as we used to, i.e John-Hill-Jr. it didn't take at all.
Then I had a bright idea and thought "Let's try the new number part of the author".
So I tried 11482185.
It looked like an alias had happened, and on the long list of John Hills it said "aliased into."
But on John Hill Jr nothing showed.
So then I tried using 11482185/John-Hill-Jr
Nope.
So, how do we, or even can we, alias with the new names?

Sorry, are you hand-doing the URLs? Or can you explain how you did this?

>2 timspalding: I was entering the last bit of the url (the name) into the box on the alias page, as it's always been done.
That doesn't work.
So I tried guessing at how the new system might work. Didn't guess right.
I don't know how to explain it more simply.
But now I look and see that you've aliased it by using what the tail-end of the url used to be, i.e. hilljohnjr instead of what it is now, i.e. John-Hill-Jr
So it adds another layer of non-intuition.

It doesn't now seem possible to entirely remove an alias number in the updated Author Division page.
For example: (using the author in >1 DuncanHill:)
https://www.librarything.com/a/48233/John-Hill
Go to 'edit the division' link:
https://www.librarything.com/author_split.php?a_id=48233&page=assign
Go to 'Alias Divisions to Other Authors' tab:
If we wished (for argument's sake) to remove the aliasing from John Hill (28) – it only offers the ability to replace one author ID number with another.
