I will be participating. I have nothing planned for this weekend... except reading.

I'm in - but I work the whole weekend, so my reading time will be limited.

Friday startup from Kansas USA
Books read from: Universe of Stone: Chartres Cathedral and the Invention of the Gothic by Philip Ball. My continuous reading book is still Katharine Graham's Washington by Katharine Graham. My computer book is Walking It Off by Doug Peacock. I started listening to Secret Keeper by Kate Morton.
Books finished:
Book Thoughts: I have started reading a book about Gothic cathedrals. This is in preparation for my planned trip to the Isle-de-France. I am 90 pages in, and the author is still explaining the philosophical underpinnings of the construction. Some might find the philosophy of the 12th century renaissance a bit esoteric, but I am getting into it.
Activities: I am going to a funeral of a long-time neighbor today. I will miss him and the short happy visits I had with him when he would bring fresh vegetables over to me. He always told me that he was happy to give me vegetables because he knew I would make something delicious from them. We had a wonderful spring rain yesterday. It was more like a November rain than spring. It was slow and gentle and usually spring rains are rather fierce out here on the Plains. This one brought us a little over an inch of much needed moisture, and it broke the hot streak that was building. The downside is that, as generous as the rain was, it isn't enough to break the drought we are in. And Nebraska is in even worse shape regarding the need for moisture.
Reading Time: 1 hours
Time listening:
Time posting:
Food: I have been having a huge amount of spring greens in my diet.
Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 590
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 1794 hours since I started doing the weekend Read-A-Thon starting in April of 2020.

In. Only the garden and my cluttered closets are keeping me from my reading. Really, other than the few plants left to pot, I'm down to weeding - both in and out!
I expect to finish The Magician before Monday, and possibly 1-2 others.

I'm in again. Currently reading In the Shadow of the Sword by Tom Holland, and The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien.

I'm in, beginning this evening. My goal is to finish at least one book: Crooked Cross by Sally Carson (1934), set in Nazi-era Germany. If time permits I have 2 books that are half-way done; maybe I can finish at least one. And perhaps start another one. Only plan this weekend is to hit the book sale and my local library branch.

I'm in this evening and Sunday. I have a full day tomorrow so there probably won't be much reading happening then.
Books read from: The Year of Magical Thinking, Return to Sender
Books finished: The Year of Magical Thinking
Snacks: Supper was a KFC chicken pot pie
Thoughts: I'm glad it's Friday!
Non-book activities: grocery shopping, short walk with Wally
Total books finished: 1
Total read from: 2
Wally has a grooming appointment first thing in the morning. I need to do my regular chores (take trash to the dump, wash the car, do laundry). I also have an appointment for a manicure and pedicure. Several of my neighbors are taking me out for a late lunch to celebrate my birthday.

Friday evening, around 9:30pm - Georgia, USA
Books read from: The Call of the Wild by Jack London; The God of Vengeance by Sholem Asch; The River Has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar
Books finished: The Call of the Wild
Thoughts: I'd never read The Call of the Wild, and while I hated the animal abuse, I ended up really liking it. I began the audio version of The River Has Roots on the drive home from work, and I expect I'll finish it tomorrow morning.
I'm also reading The God of Vengeance, a play originally written in Yiddish in 1906. It was apparently the first Yiddish play to be widely translated and produced across Europe. I'm reading it largely because I want to read Paula Vogel's Indecent, which is about the controversy surrounding the play's U.S. production in 1922. Pretty much everyone involved was arrested and charged with, among other things, obscenity. The play is credited with the first on stage lesbian kiss in the nation, and has a Jewish brothel owner, so some people were a little upset. :)

Friday reading:
Books read from: 1: Crooked Cross by Sally Carson (1934), read 95 pages. An amazing read so far. The novel is based on Carson's experience living in southern Germany in 1933 and was published in 1934. It tells of one average family living in a small town outside Munich. Long out of print, this was reprinted by Persephone books last year.
Books finished: 0
Time reading: 3.5 hours
Bookish goals for Saturday:
--attend 1 library book sale;
--listen to Pride and Prejudice (a many-times re-read) in the car while running errands;
--continue with Crooked Cross;
--and possibly dip into one or two library books picked up yesterday: A Writer's Eye by Paul Horgan or The Smithsonian's History of America in 101 Objects. The latter is a massive tome (over 600 pages and liberally illustrated) which will probably take most of the summer to read.

Saturday report from Kansas USA
Books read from: Universe of Stone: Chartres Cathedral and the Invention of the Gothic by Philip Ball. My continuous reading book, Katharine Graham's Washington by Katharine Graham. My computer book is Walking It Off by Doug Peacock. I started listening to Secret Keeper by Kate Morton.
Books finished:
Book Thoughts: I am closing in on the halfway mark in the 800 page tome that is Katherine Graham's Washington so the people on this thread can look forward to many many more reports of me reading this one. I crossed the halfway mark in Walking It Off and think I will have finished the book by the end of the month. My main book is Universe of Stone and I have read 110 pages in it so far. I probably won't finish any book this weekend, but sometimes weekends are like that. I went to the public library yesterday and checked out two more books, but don't think I am going to start either one of them at this point.
Activities: It rained another .30 this morning. That makes us getting almost 1 1/2 inches of rain since last Wednesday. Very nice for this time of year. I planted the last of my pots and am just waiting for things to dry out a bit before I clean off the porch. Other than that I have been a couch potato today.
Reading Time: 1 hours
Time listening:
Time posting:
Food: and egg and argula sandwich for lunch.
Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 590
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 1791 hours since I started doing the weekend Read-A-Thon starting in April of 2020.

Books finished: The God of Vengeance; The River Has Roots; Saturday, the Rabbi Went Hungry
Thoughts: It's been a long day - I'm beat! I'm trying to finish up a bunch of fairly short works by the end of day tomorrow for TIOLI Challenges. The Far Pavillions took longer to read than I'd hoped! I'm not certain what I'm going to start next, but it's going to be off of a short list.

Sunday midway update:
Books read from:
- Quantum Physics Simplified (a slow listen, look stuff up, re-listen, and maybe something will stick kind of book - for me)
- Pachinko (really enjoying, but only listen while doing an unenjoyable activity that's good for me)
- The Magician (thought I would've already finished but will today)
- The God of Small Things (started as my walking listen for this week - another one of those bookgroup books I'd missed)
Books finished:
- Platform Decay (I adore Murderbot)
Thoughts: Although I'm not a huge fan of Toibin, nor of historical fiction, but I'm enjoying the way he brought a particular time and man to life in The Magician. Perfection is not needed.
Non-book activities: Watched Menu last night. Fiennes was awesome, as usual. Received a tractor hose/watering device: spent the day playing with that (Saturday). Are tractors considered the modern or traditional gift for a 30-odd wedding anniversary? Maybe I can find a book on the history of farm machinery ...

Sunday - catching up
Books:
A DOG’S JOURNEY
GREY MASK
THE HARD LINE
Breakfast:
oatmeal w/ cinnamon, pecans, dried fruit. Coffee.
Book activity:
Friday l went to the village bookstore to buy THE BROTHERS MCKAY because the author, Craig Johnson, was coming on Saturday. Then l was busy and missed the program. 😐.
I brought home two fat books from my Little Free Library:
WORDS OF RADIANCE and
WINTER OF THE WORLD. Now l have all three of Follett’s THE CENTURY TRILOGY. Hope to begin that series soon.
Saturday my nephew and his family arrived and since my husband is still recovering, they and my sis and BIL all moved into a lovely airbnb close by. This gives them lots of room and plenty of space for the little cousins to play. My 9 yr old niece played at my house Saturday before they moved over to the new place.
I’m going over later to say hello to everyone and check out the house, an updated historic farmhouse in a tiny artsy community by the Haw River.

Weekend Wrap-up from Kansas USA
Books read from: Universe of Stone: Chartres Cathedral and the Invention of the Gothic by Philip Ball. My continuous reading book, Katharine Graham's Washington by Katharine Graham. My computer book is Walking It Off by Doug Peacock. I started listening to Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman
Books finished:
Book Thoughts: I stopped listening to Secret Keeper and started listening to Light Between Oceans for the group read that Mark got together for this title. I requested both the book and the audio CDs from the local library and they got them for me. There should be no excuse for me keeping up with Mark and the gang on this one. It was a good reading weekend with most of my reading done on Sunday.
Activities: It portents rain and I have only a few more plants to get into pots this morning. The plants are loving the humidity that we have had the last few days and are growing like weeds! I placed the ads for the kolache baking yesterday and now I have to start making a grocery list to get the supplies for the big day. I had a birthday party for a 5-year-old on Sunday night and gave him a boxed set of the seven original Curious George books. I hope that he will read them. I should have taken the boxed set of the Wild Robot series for his older brother. His birthday is next week and he is the perfect age for the Wild Robot books.

>22 kac522: I read Crooked Cross a year or two ago. If Persephone Books were still a bus or tube ride away, I would have almost certainly visited the shop, as a sequel is now on offer from Persephone. But Bath - that needs some planning. However, I now have a sequel and still hope to write a little review/profile of the author, who died far too soon in 1941, at a young age and long before the defeat of fascism in WWiI seemed certain. Now, I am anxious as the far right is on the rise across Europe, and very vocal.
27kac522
>26 elkiedee: Yes, I see the 2nd book is now available AND they're planning to publish the 3rd book in the future. (The ending is somewhat ambiguous so I really want the next one!) The book is so amazingly prophetic, and like you say, it is so sad that Carson died before the war ended. Here in the U.S. the only way to get a copy is to order it; I have to see if Blackwell's carry it, as they are very reasonable about postage to the U.S. (not sure how they do it, but I'll take it)
