I’m looking for the title of a thriller I read, probably from the 1970s–1990s (Sidney Sheldon era).
The main character is a woman in her 30s or 40s who undergoes extensive plastic surgery on her entire body to look like a much younger woman (around her 20s). She’s unconscious or sedated during most of the surgeries and recovery, but she’d sometimes come out of it to remember the pain and snippets of conversations. When she wakes up she has to learn how to move, act, and present as a woman in her 20's. Part of the story is her having to learn the lingo, music, bands, slang, and lifestyle of the younger generation so she can pass as someone in that age group.
I think it was the workings of some organization. I can’t remember if she volunteered or was coerced. The "organization" needed her skill set and knowledge, but she needed to pass as someone in their 20s. I THINK she was being prepared to infiltrate some company, group or organization for a specific assignment, possibly corporate or espionage‑related, but I’m not 100% certain on that detail. It was definitely not romantic suspense.
Does this ring a bell for anyone?
